Your Questions, Answered

  • Anyone at the University of Oklahoma can join. No experience is required, and you don’t need your own gear or a car. All you need is a willingness to get outside and have fun.

  • If an event is sponsored in whole or in part by the University of Oklahoma or a university department, only OU students can participate. For other events, non-OU students are welcome to join with leadership approval.

  • Membership is $20 for the fall semester. This includes access to club activities, access to gear rentals, and a club T-shirt that can be picked up at any meeting, event, or campout.

  • No. The Outdoor Club provides affordable gear rentals through our gear library. If you have your own gear, you are welcome and encouraged to bring it with you.

  • We have meetings every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month in Gaylord hall from 7:00pm - 8:00pm. (This changes sometimes, check out our calendar for our current events, and our Instagram and Discord for last minute announcements!)

  • Yes! In our discord server, we have a carpool channel that you can plan who you can ride with. Or, just show up and we will figure it out before we leave Norman.

  • Yes. If you have a car, you can sign up to drive for trips, and drivers are reimbursed for gas. This helps make trips affordable and ensures everyone has a way to get to events.

  • Yes. To become a member, you must complete the RSO Risk Acknowledgment Form, the Medical Information Form, and the Outdoor Club Membership Form. All of these are required for membership and can be found on the Forms tab.

  • Yes. All trips have a detailed itinerary, including contingency plans and emergency protocols. A Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is on site for trips without immediate road access, and a dedicated Safety Officer helps ensure everyone stays safe.

  • You can stay connected by joining our Discord server, following us on Instagram, subscribing to our newsletter, attending club meetings, and becoming a member. These are the best ways to hear about trips, events, and updates.

  • If you went on a club trip and felt as though you or someone else was put into an unsafe situation, you can report it here. This information will only be shared with the club safety officer. You have the option of remaining anonymous. If you choose to provide your name, it may be used to follow up with you if necessary.
